Holiday shopping is around the corner and chances are you’ll be doing a lot of that shopping online. Keep your jolly spirit all season long by knowing how to protect yourself online! Here are a few tips to help you keep your information safe online.
- Make sure the site is secure! Look at the website’s URL and check that it starts with https:// instead of http://. Think of it as “s” for secure! Secure sites will also have a small padlock icon in the right corner of the screen.

- Set strong passwords on your online accounts. Avoid using passwords that use something like your birthday or anniversary or your child’s name. Avoid using the same password for multiple accounts.
- Use caution when using a Wi-Fi connection. Protect your home wireless network with a password. When connecting to a public Wi-Fi network, be mindful of what information you are sending over it.
- Keep your computers and devices up to date. The best defenses against viruses, malware and other online threats are having the latest security software, web browser and operating system. Turn on automatic updates so you are sure to receive the latest fixes as soon as possible.
- Take advantage of available security features. Protect your card and online purchases using services such as Visa Checkout and Verified by Visa.*
